Summary

This is our beginner’s Power BI course. It is designed for people who have little or no Power BI experience.

The course is built around Power BI Desktop - you need your own copy (free from Microsoft). Like all our Power BI courses, we put a lot of emphasis on practical, hands-on activities in Power BI Desktop.

Course content includes:

  1. An introduction to Power BI Desktop
  2. Formatting and then importing data from MS Excel
  3. Building simple reports
  4. Solving problems with calculated columns
  5. Using simple Measures
  6. More complex reports
  7. Sharing reports with colleagues/teams via the online Power BI service

The course is designed so you:

  1. Build a solid Power BI foundation
  2. Become a productive Power BI user - you learn how to use Power BI to find and share valuable insights in data.

Prerequisites

To get most value from the course you need to have reasonable MS Excel skills. You should know how to:

  1. Use basic formulas in Excel
  2. Convert spreadsheet data into Excel ‘tables’.
  3. Filter columns, format data (numbers, text etc.). Create Excel columns that are based on formulas.

These skills are important because the course begins with a look at how data in Excel should be formatted before import in Power BI Desktop.

Can I bespoke the course?

The best way to bespoke the course is to ask us to build around your own data. We can replace our own course sample data with some of your spreadsheets. That way at the end of the course you have a working, fully interactive report built in Power BI Desktop.

Online training requirements

You will need:

  • A good internet connection
  • Webcam & audio
  • MS Windows PC with Power BI Desktop (download is free from Microsoft).

Payment

We invoice for payment before the course starts.

Outcomes

At the end of the Get Started with Power BI (Beginners) training course you should be able to:

  1. Understand how to format data in MS Excel before importing it into Power BI.
  2. Design and build reports for a non-technical audience.
  3. Use calculated columns and measures to enhance your data and make reports more powerful.
  4. Share reports with colleagues via Power BI Online.

You finish the course with the foundation you need to continue to develop your own skills.
